Football-Connect Futsal Fives introduces everyone to the five-a side indoor version of football in a fun, fast paced and friendly environment. Futsal Fives is open to players with para and or intellectual disability and requires no previous experience.
The Futsal-Fives program is held on Saturday mornings and includes seven sessions. Each week participants will take part in drills/activities and play games against other Football-Connect players. This is a great chance for all players to experience another format of football and to continue their football over the summer in preparation for season seven of the Football Connect All Ability League set to commence in 2017.
Football-Connect have pathways in place to ensure players who would like to get more from their futsal can do just that. Football-Connect have two teams playing in the mens mainstream futsal competition once a week in both the Winter and Summer seasons, meaning participants can continue to play and develop all year. Teams are made up of both Football-Connect players and volunteer team mentors to provide on court coaching and guidance. Due to the nature of the games, players must be nominated by a coach to participate in the pathway program. In 2017 Football-Connet staff hope to create the same pathway for our junior players.
National Futsal Championships is held annually in either Canberra or Sydney. Football-Connect has had players competiting at the tournament and representing the ACT since 2011 when the athletes with a disability (AWD) division was included in the tounrment. At this tournament Football-Connect players can be and have been selected to represent Australia at the INAS World Futsal and Football Championships. Participation in the Futsal Fives program acts as a trial period for players to be selected for training and the team to represent the territory at the tournament.
